Our commitments to the planet

Working with our entire ecosystem on a daily basis to change practices.

In 2022, our Responsibility Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) “Be the change” charter has evolved to align with the Paris Climate Agreement. It formalises Newrest’s long-term commitment to sustainable growth.

9 pillars of commitment

The Group's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Charter is based on 9 principles specific to our context, including 6 environmental principles:

Reducing food waste

  • Objective: Reduce food waste from our activities by 40% (in financial terms compared with total purchases).
  • And in concrete terms :

– Deployment of a pre-ordering tool to optimize meal preparation and purchasing.

– Collaboration with associations that recover our unsold or short-dated products and redistribute them to people in precarious situations.

Improve our
waste management strategy

  • Target: 50% of waste sorted by 2030
  • In action: Implementation of selective waste sorting and contracts to recycle our waste when recycling channels are available, as for example in the United States through the transformation of bio-waste into natural gas to power the city’s homes.

Promote
sustainable purchasing practices

  • Objective: 100% of units in compliance with sustainable purchasing commitments
  • And concretely: Creating virtuous circles through cooperation with producers, enabling us to favor local, fresh, seasonal products grown or raised using methods that are more respectful of the environment and biodiversity.

Committed to reducing the use of single-use plastics

  • Goal: 50% of products purchased plastic-free by 2030
  • In action: Working with our customers and suppliers in a spirit of continuous improvement to reduce the use of single-use packaging and move towards a ban on disposable plastic cups and bottles for our employees.

Develop
processes
dematerialized

  • Objective: Adopt digital solutions at 100% of our operating sites
  • And in concrete terms: Implementation of digital solutions designed to combine sustainability, efficiency and reliability. These initiatives not only reduce paper consumption, but also improve traceability throughout our operations.

Reduce our
greenhouse gas emissions
effect

  • Objective: Reduce our CO² emissions by 30% at sites that have calculated their carbon footprint.
  • In action: Reducing our carbon footprint beyond the actions mentioned in the previous pillars. This includes, for example, renovating our units, optimizing energy and water use, and giving preference to electric vehicles (where relevant and realistic).
